Today my younger sister and I decided to spend some time in Barnes & Noble. - I forgot how cold it gets in there from the air-conditioning! - She was looking through the sale section of books, while I perused the journal section - eventually just walking around talking to people and taking in my surroundings.
I decided to walk towards the in-store cafe, and was rounding a corner around the last aisle when what I saw on the floor stopped me dead in my tracks: a young woman obviously struggling with anorexia. - Oh how that broke my heart to see her painfully thin frame sitting on the floor cross-legged. I wanted to encourage her but when I turned around again, she was nowhere in sight.
It seemed that I was bombarded with so much of the world. She had been in the "self-help" section, and there were just so many dark things around every corner. A nearby mom was losing patience with her child, and there were disturbing book-cover images everywhere... Even some of the employees seemed dead, when you looked at them and smiled.
Our culture is starving for a greater purpose... a reason to be alive. - There is a desperate cry for LOVE in our nation - A love that strengthens, secures, comforts, sustains...completely fulfills - and that love is only found in Jesus!
I pray you will find soothing encouragement through this verse:
Jer 31:3-4 The LORD has appeared of old to me, [saying]: "Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you. Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel! You shall again be adorned with your tambourines, And shall go forth in the dances of those who rejoice.
He wants to heal and restore your broken heart! You are loved!
