This picture reminds me of a Castle Wall... (Taken with my digital camera)
Today I had the privilege of giving my first devo (devotional)to my small group at school. Every morning we have been meeting at a beautiful lake, and our group decided to give everyone the opportunity to give a five-minute-devo on an attribute of God.
I chose to elaborate on how God is KING - the King of kings & Lord of lords!
As a child I really enjoyed "princess stories" - and had many of the Disney adaptations of Cinderella, Beauty and Beast, Snow White, etc... My young nieces are also following suit, with everything "princess" - And I'm reminded of the image and message I began to receive from these princesses. - Their fair features, beautiful figures, silky hair, and elaborate dresses were in my day dreams, as I pretended to be like one of them. - But the reality was - I was not like them? - I did not look perfect and beautiful as they did.
Later in my teenage years, I struggled with comparing myself to others, believing a lie that I was not a Daughter of the King. I believed I was ugly, unlovable, unwanted. - I strived to be perfect, and struggled with an eating disorder. I had a completely distorted view of myself, and allowed the world to define my beauty and title.
Now, through His Truth and healing, I've been completely restored to where I've belonged all along - into His family, as His Daughter. I'm so glad that I don't have a standard of perfection I need to obtain to be loved and accepted by Him! - To Him I am perfect! I am beautiful beyond compare...a rare jewel of royalty. - And so are you!
He does not look at you through the filter of Disney, or Playboy, or whatever entertainment industries portray a "real woman" to be. To Him, you are perfect and uniquely, fearfully, wonderfully made!
The enemy often tries to discourage us with ways we are seemingly inadequate, and not like others. - A never ending cycle of condemnation!
But there is hope! I encourage you to dwell on how Your King sees you with the following passage:
Psalm 45:9-14: Kings' daughters [are] among Your honorable women; At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir. Listen, O daughter, Consider and incline your ear; Forget your own people also, and your father's house; So the King will greatly desire your beauty; Because He [is] your Lord, worship Him. And the daughter of Tyre [will come] with a gift; The rich among the people will seek your favor. The royal daughter [is] all glorious within [the palace]; Her clothing [is] woven with gold. She shall be brought to the King in robes of many colors;
